Matthew McDowell (Virtuoso Winner - viola) will be performing Lento-Allegro from the Bloch suite for Viola and Orchestra, a piece with haunting melodies, dissonant harmonies and demanding technical passages. Lexine Feng (Artisan Winner - cello) will be performing the Victor Herbert Cello Concerto No. 2, Op. 30, mvt 3, a “subtly crafted composition that brilliantly exploits the resources of the cello.” Nathaniel Parker (Artisan Laureate - violin) will be performing Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso by Saint-Saens, a brief work with a reflective opening and a dazzling movement full of “fireworks.” Eugenie Lim (Apprentice Winner - violin) will be performing the Sarasate Fantasy after Bizet’s Carmen, Op. 25, a piece performed frequently in competitions for both its delicate and technically challenging passages. Asaph Tsai (Apprentice Laureate - violin) will be performing the 1st movement of Saint Saens Concerto No. 3 in b minor, Op. 61, the dramatic and technical piece written for Sarasate.
